‘Eye on the world’ has been rather quiet this week – we blame numerous (worthy) distractions. Our Geography colleagues in Cork haven’t had the same luxury: they’ve been coping with flooded buildings and roads, an inundated university, and interruptions to the supply of water and electricity. However, geographer Denis Linehan has found time to map the responses to the flooding. His excellent community map shows where people in Cork can get access to drinking and sanitary water, as well as showers. It’s a great example of how geographers can provide useful knowledge that responds quickly to the needs of local communities.
