On Monday 29 September, 13.00, at the Royal Irish Academy, Dawson st, Dublin, The RIA and the Geographical Society of Ireland will host a lecture by Professor John Mohan, Director of the Third Sector Research Centre, University of Birmingham, UK. The title of his talk is “Charity deserts, spatial justice, and the distribution of voluntary resources: bad science, evidence-free policy, and the politics of the “Big Society”. The lecture examines the spatial justice aspects of the increasing reliance upon charity and voluntarism in welfare provision. You can register for the event here.
The lecture also launches a new RIA paperback, Spatial Justice and the Irish Crisis. The book contains essays on spatial justice in Ireland by Maynooth geographers Rory Hearne, Rob Kitchin, Cian O’Callaghan, Ronan Foley, Adrian Kavanagh, Mary Gilmartin, Gerry Kearns as well as Marie Mahon, Anna Davies, David Meredith, Jon Paul Faulkner, Des Mc Cafferty, Jon Paul Faulkner.
